Some thoughts on the curriculum framework
Tonight I learnt about the English language curriculum framework in the lesson. I believe it was a good guideline for teachers to design their own lessons. All aspects were particularly perfect and idealistic. The outcomes of setting the goals in these documents are positive. However, sometimes I think if my students could really benefit from this wordy curriculum framework. But a teacher and the administrators should digest the framework and design a course to cater the students' needs.
Actually my students have a lot of issues which teachers have to tackle. The curriculum framework is too idealistic that the students cannot benefit all of them. My students lack motivation and the curriculum design institute may only force students to put their feet in the CDC's shoes. It was somehow impractical. Take knowledge strand as an example, I do not believe all students can fully acquiring and be capable of using the knowledge they learnt in daily lives. My students are not even interested in English so it takes some time for teachers to encourage them and boost up their interests.
There are still something I found useful for students. The idea was good for the students to build up the values and attitudes. Perseverance, equality, self-esteem, honesty, tolerance and interdependence are what the current batch of youngsters lack. Also, the generic skills advocated in these documents are quite useful as we should learn these skills to live and English is just a medium. I really hope that students can use these skills, values and attitudes to modify their own to be better persons.
